157. Dinosaurs or Dragons? Discerning Biblical Creatures from Evolution’s Lies
Could everything we've been taught about dinosaurs be wrong? As a self-proclaimed dinosaur skeptic, I'm challenging the narrative that's been drilled into us since childhood. It's fascinating to discover that the word "dinosaur" didn't even exist until 1841. Before that, cultures worldwide spoke of dragons in their historical records, artwork, and legends. The timing of dinosaur "discoveries" suspiciously aligned with the spread of Darwin's evolutionary theory—both needing deep time and fantastical creatures to support their claims.
Looking deeper reveals troubling inconsistencies. Most dinosaur reconstructions are built from surprisingly few bone fragments, with artists filling in massive gaps using imagination rather than evidence. Many proposed dinosaur physiologies present biological impossibilities—creatures too heavy to support their own weight or requiring impossibly large hearts. The field has been plagued by fraud, from the Archaeoraptor hoax announced by National Geographic to the shocking revelation that both the T-Rex and Velociraptor were essentially invented by Henry Fairfield Osborne, a wealthy railroad tycoon's son with powerful connections. Even the dating methods rely on circular reasoning: fossils date the rocks while rocks date the fossils.
The Bible offers a different perspective, describing massive creatures like Behemoth with "bones like bronze and a tail like a cedar tree" and Leviathan, a terrifying sea creature capable of breathing fire. These descriptions align with dragon accounts recorded across cultures for thousands of years. This isn't just about bones—it's about authority. Will we trust God's consistent Word about creation, or theories built on fragments and fabrications? I am your host, rebecca Toomey, and today we are tackling one of the most fascinating and controversial topics dinosaurs. You probably didn't think we were going to go here, or maybe you did. If you know me, maybe you know, but if you didn't know is, dinosaurs are controversial. Guess what? Welcome.
Speaker 1:Welcome to the dinosaur chat, and this is an interesting one because this is one that much like last episode I talked about evolution and the big bang. These are, these are things that were taught as facts and we don't question them. What about dinosaurs? From the time that we are little kids, we are shown images of these giant reptiles that once roamed the earth millions of years ago. Museums, movies, textbooks they all tell us that dinosaurs lived long before humans and then went extinct in some dramatic event. But I'm here to tell you I'm a dinosaur skeptic, so this is going to be a fun one and, please, this is lighthearted I'm not trying to ruin your life by telling you that dinosaurs are not real, but I am here to talk about what the Bible says about dinosaurs. So let's talk about that. I actually believe that the dinosaur story that we see today is a modern invention and that it is designed to distract people from the truth of God's word and to push forward the lie of evolution, that they go hand in hand. We're going to look a little bit today about where this idea came from and I'm going to give you some supporting evidence to why I don't think that this holds up and how the Bible gives us a very different picture from what we're getting from modern culture. So let's talk a little bit about the invention of quote dinosaurs.
Speaker 1:You may not realize this, but the word dinosaur didn't exist until 1841. Before that, cultures worldwide spoke of dragons dragons in legends and art and historical records, and this is from Asia to Europe to the Americas. Dragons appeared over and over, but in the 1800s at the same. This is where the irony and skepticism comes in. At the same time that Darwin's theory of evolution was spreading, a handful of scientists in England began discovering evolution quote, discovering fossils and then labeling them as creatures. Separate prehistoric age. The timing I do not believe was an accident. Evolution needed deep time and fantastical creatures to really support its claims. So dinosaurs really became the perfect prop. All right, and you're probably at this point like all right, rebecca, you're crazy, this is nuts.
Speaker 1:I'm going to give you nine reasons why I think that dinosaurs are a hoax. All right, so let's start with. They were biased from the beginning. The first dinosaur discoverers were a very small group of english academics, unitarians and deists who openly opposed the bible, and their discoveries, I believe, were driven by ideology and not by faith. The next thing is where were they before? You know, if dinosaurs really roamed the earth in massive numbers, ancient civilizations should have found thousands of intact skeletons. Instead, what we see in history are dragon accounts, not dinosaurs.
Speaker 1:The third thing is that fossil records disprove evolution. Evolution really requires countless transitional forms, but they are missing. Dinosaurs were introduced to fill the gap, but no evidence shows creatures transforming into other species. Next, we have speculative reconstructions. Most dinosaurs are built from a few bone fragments and museums and artists are filling in the blanks with imagination. Fully intact skeletons are virtually unknown, and I do have some resources.

Speaker 1:Many of these supposed dinosaurs could not have functioned, like literally could not have functioned. Their weight would crush their bodies, their hearts would have needed to be impossibly large and their diets that are made up don't make sense for reptile physiology as well. And then that brings me to fraud and fabrication. So from the 1800s onward, fakes have plagued paleontology. The Archeraptor fossil announced by the National Geographic in 1999, touted as the missing link between birds and dinosaurs, was later exposed to literally be a glued together hoax. It was totally fake.
Speaker 1:Then there's the Osborne connection fake. Then there's the Osborne connection Illuminati insider Henry Fairfield Osborne, son of a wealthy railroad tycoon, played a huge role in shaping the dinosaur narrative. He invented. Invented, yes, both the Tyrannosaurus rex and the Velociraptor and the velociraptor, two of the most famous dinosaurs in history. Neither of these creatures ever truly existed, but thanks to osborne's influence they became icons. And if you know about spielberg's jurassic park, they have become immortalized.
Speaker 1:And these movies didn't just entertain people, they cemented the dinosaur myth in the minds of millions of people. So I have a hard time, y'all. When I see the T-Rex, I'm like hold this together. And then circular dating. Fossils are dated by the rock strata and the rock strata are dated by the fossils, and that's circular reasoning. That is not objective science.
Speaker 1:Lastly, replica skeletons. Most dinosaur skeletons and museums today are replicas and they're fabricated by professional companies. The quote real fossils are hidden away in storage where no one can see them. They're inaccessible to outside experts who might expose the fraud. Okay, so if dinosaurs aren't real and they don't exist and people made all this stuff up, then what is this situation here? What's the deal?
Speaker 1:The Bible actually does describe something pretty crazy. Instead of dinosaurs, the Bible describes dragons, and they are mighty beasts. Behemoth in Job 40 is a massive land creature with bones like bronze and a tail like a cedar tree. Leviathan in Job 41 is a terrifying sea creature that breathed fire and smoke. That breathed fire and smoke. And then dragons Isaiah 27, 1, psalm 74, verses 13 through 14, mighty serpents and sea monsters. So these are not fairy tales. They are inspired by scripture and they do line up with dragon accounts recorded across cultures for thousands of years, across cultures for thousands of years. So I believe dinosaurs are a distraction.
Speaker 1:Why is there this obsession with dinosaurs? They serve the narrative of evolution. Dinosaurs just happen to very conveniently provide the timeline and the imagery and the mythos needed to convince people that the Bible is wrong. From children's books to Hollywood movies, dinosaurs are dominating our imagination, but at the end of the day, they are one of the greatest deceptions used to pull people away from Genesis and into evolutionary lies. Why does this matter, as I love to ask? Well, the debate over dinosaurs isn't just about bones, it's about authority. Will we trust God's word, which consistently speaks of dragons and great beasts, or will we trust men's theories, which are built on fragments and frauds and fabrications? And as Christians, guys, we don't need the dinosaur story to make sense of creation. We already have the truth God created the heavens and the earth and his word has never changed. So I know it was a lot.

Dragons were real, dragons are, are what the reference is here, and that god is the creator and his word will always stand.
